Ethereum Hegota Lists FOCIL as Sole Scheduled 2027 Change

CoinGecko had ETH at $2,427.88 by 8:04 a.m. ET, a modest green candle while BTC held $77,194 (+0.10%), SOL ripped 1.25% to $94.40, XRP slipped 0.22% to $1.49, and DOGE cooked 3.07% to $0.092537. Quiet price action across the majors, but the deeper ETH story this week sits on the 2027 upgrade calendar, not the hourly candles.

CoinDesk reported on Aug. 17, 2026, that FOCIL is the only change approved so far for Ethereum’s Hegota upgrade. Hegota is expected in 2027 after Glamsterdam. Shaurya Malwa’s piece framed a shortlist that is still mostly open water. FOCIL is not live on mainnet. Hegota is not this year’s fork.

FOCIL is EIP-7805, Fork-choice enforced Inclusion Lists. A committee of validators compiles lists of transactions that builders must include, so no single builder decides alone what stays out of a block. CoinDesk noted that today the operator assembling a block can leave waiting transactions out. The EIP page lists it as a Draft Standards Track Core proposal. Named authors include Thomas Thiery, Francesco D’Amato, Julian Ma, Barnabé Monnot, Terence Tsao, Jacob Kaufmann, and Jihoon Song. It remains a draft. It is not on mainnet.

Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter said on Aug. 16 that 66 proposals are on the table. The new-proposal deadline passed Aug. 6. Core devs will narrow the list over coming calls. Official Hegota framing across desks still names FOCIL as the only feature formally scheduled for inclusion.

Still considered, not approved

Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), Keyed Nonces (EIP-8250), and EIP-8272 are considered, not approved. Some of that work sits next to talk of self-funded privacy pools, the idea that privacy tooling could pay network fees without leaning on third-party intermediaries. Privacy has not shipped. Ordinary ETH transfers stay visible. Anyone reading a small green candle into a privacy launch is ahead of the chart.

That capital angle matters inside the room. Hegota’s early shortlist is thin on closed deals and heavy on open debate. FOCIL’s inclusion-list design is about who controls transaction flow, a capital-structure question dressed as consensus rules. Builders, proposers, and validator committees are negotiating who gets to exclude whom.
